Compact Exercise Equipment


With so many of us frequently on the move, staying fit becomes more of an effort. As an international management consultant for many years, I found that if I had some fitness equipment with me, I would use it - in fact, I generally keep it on my desk, and work out in short intervals during the day.

My favorite compact exercise equipment is:

  1. Hand Spring Grip
  2. Resistance Bands
  3. Small Hand Weights
  4. Exercise Program DVDs

The hand grip is useful for on the plane and sitting at my desk. If someone calls unannounced, or I have phone calls to make that don't require note-taking - you will find me squeezing that grip! There are also a number of grip balls, that are good to start with. Keeping the muscles in the forearm strong helps to reduce the chance of developing Tendinitis - a repeatitive strain injury from too much intense mouse work.

Resistance bands are one of the best fitness tools I have come across - they are incredibly versatile, and if you don't think they will give you a total body workout - just try them and see how you feel over the next couple of days. You will work muscles in ways you never thought you could. More on Resistance Bands.

Small handweights are good for light toning exercise - I have a favorite DVD that combines light aerobics with hand weights. If I am on domestic flights where baggage weight is not an issue, I am known to throw them in.

DVD's take absolutely no room or weight to pack - I generally travel with a yoga, pilates and strength training DVD [uses your own body weight]. I don't even need a DVD player in my hotel room - I use them right on my laptop. More on Exercise Program DVD's

So, there is no excuse for not keeping up your exercise program whilst on the move, and after sitting in an aeroplane for 10 hours, stretching out is a very good feeling.
