BlackBerry Bold 9000

General Description

This global messaging smartphone from Blackberry is designed with the international traveler in mind, with quad-band GSM and tri-band 3G connectivity as well as Wi-Fi connectivity.

Since business people already love and trust the Blackberry for its easy to use navigation, reliable call service and productivity features, this new addition to the range is sure to please.

Style, comfort and functionality blend together well with this smartphone. It is comfy to hold and the soft pleather backing means it stays snugly in place on those slippery hot, humid days. If you don't like the look, it's easy enough to peel off. This is certainly the Bold and Beautiful rival with a huge screen and fantastic resolution.

Form Factor

  • Size: 4.5 x 2.6 x 0.6 inches ; 4.8 ounces - that's much larger than the 8310 and close to the 8800 series.
  • Screen - with a resolution of 480x320 [that's twice the resolution of the Curve at. 320x240].
  • Weight: 1.4 lbs

Key Features

  • Bluetooth for handsfree devices
  • MicroSD expansion to a whopping 32 GB
  • USB cable
  • 3.5mm stereo headset
  • 3G connectivity - at last!!
  • Variable screen lighting - responds to ambient light by becoming brighter when it's bright, and dimmer with backlit keyboad in low light. A really cool feature.
  • Very loud speaker for music playback with surprising quality.
  • Voice dialing works surprisingly well - try downloading vLingo to make it even better!

Media & Apps

  • AT&T Mobile Music, and streaming video from Cellular Video service
  • Compatible with AT&T Navigator GPS turn-by-turn directions - a real bonus for the top smartphones today
  • 2-megapixel camera/camcorder
  • Compatiable with Google mobile apps and Yahoo - try downloading the new blackberry versions of gmail and google maps.
  • Pushes email from GMAIL with minimal setup - something the Apple iPhone sadly lacks.

Up to 4.5 hours of talk time, up to 324 hours (13.5 days) of standby time. The battery drains pretty fast when downloading content over 3G but is pretty much on par with other 3G phones.

Plug it in for charging and it automatically switches to a clock display mode, to easily set the alarm, making it perfect for your main alarm system.

Does not support stereo bluetooth headsets

The Blackberry Bold seems to have taken the best of previous Blackerrys, and then some. The web broswer is a much needed improvement over past models and whilst it doesn't handle media on screen as well as the iPhone, the productivity suite support [such as Mail] make it a better choice for the business man.
